Atif Aslam's concert: Three killed in stampede in Lahore

Pakistani singer Atif Aslam's concert received overwhelming response in Lahore on Monday. But the gig ended with a stampede, which claimed the lives of students. According to the police, the stampede occurred when private security guards used batons to push back a group of girls who rushed towards Aslam to get his autograph.

Atif Aslam's concert was held at Alhamra Cultural Complex in Lahore on Monday and a large number of students of the Punjab College of Commerce had gathered at the venue. Deputy Inspector General of Police Ghulam Mahmood Dogar told PTI, "When the concert ended, some girls rushed towards Mr Aslam to get his autograph. To save Mr Aslam from the crowd, the security guards resorted to a light baton charge which caused panic among the girls."

According to Dogar the stampede occurred at the exit door and many students were injured in the incident. Although the injured were taken to nearby hospitals, the doctors could not save the life of three female business students. Officials described the condition of five injured persons as critical.
